Why are npcs harmed during teleport? Door or otherwise.....
      #2686647 - 06/12/04 09:49 PM

Just curious. Teleport damage and door damage don't come up in any search. Why does this happen and is it preventable?

Known game bug (that's the term we use when we don't understand why it happens).

Some different approaches to a resolution:

I think TheOtherFelix created a script that causes the companion to delay for a second before teleporting and got it fixed that way. I've not seen it, but Emma told me about it.

Vorwoda the Black has a stand alone mod that fixes the doors in the game. Don't know where to get it at though. You might try PMing him.

In-game: Open the console and make the NPC active there by clicking on them with your cursor. Type: setacrobatics 200 (enter).

Or if you are making a companion just set their acrobatics to 200 on their property sheet.

Typically happens while the companion is levitating, but I've heard of other instances where this happens without levitation as well.

You can fix that be resurrecting them. Open the console and click on their corpse until you see their ID in the top portion of the console. Then type resurrect in the console and hit enter.

Thanks for that tip. My guards do not die in doors now. I hope it's not too uber....what does acrobatics affect again?

Just jumping (which NPC's don't normally do) and surviving falls, which is obviously the key part here. So it's only unfair in that the NPC won't get hurt if you jump off a tower with them, no big deal though.

And resurect might be okay for emergencies, but it does reset all the NPC's items and probably stats too.

Doesn't one of the patches or expansion packs fix this problem? either the morrowind patch or tribunal, i think...i seem to remember reading about it when going over some of the fixes that the bathesda team made with one of their releases

I think they fixed a similar bug that effected the PC if you jumped while going through a door. I think this is a little different though.

that used to happen to me then the red would be around the screen and you would have to jump and hurt yourself to make it go away

I've also noted during Tribunal that my companion's constant-effect items (ones I've made for him and in-game ones [e.g., Fists of Randagulf]) don't work right. Is this related? I'll companion-share and his carrying capacity won't reflect buffed strength and feather enchantments, only if i remove items and put them back on him do the CE items (seem to) work -- and then only temporarily.

I have the same problem (Link). I just installed GOTY, and have not had that problem "As of yet".
Death by Doors Part II (Slowfall note for MS4D)
Also, here is a pic of a NPC guard (Link below) that: 1) Died because of Slowfall+Doors 2) Had a persistant Cloud/Magic effect around it that would not go away. The cause was another bug, and I had to remove ALL enchanted items from this NPC for it to go away.
Spell effects gone bad
GOTY did cure this problem.
